Pete's Walks - Chenies, Ley Hill, Chipperfield Common (page 4 of 5)

From Apostles Pond a path headed south (so I turned right) towards Commonwood, initially between a tall hedge and  a fence on the right, then between fences with meadows or paddocks either side. The path became a track, where I passed the couple I'd seen earlier in Lower Plantation, and then a lane as it reached the village of Commonwood. Here I turned right along the road, following it south to a junction where I took the leftmost fork, a lane that ran through the wooded Commonwood Common.

The lane ended at a T-junction on the southern edge of the wood. A footpath started almost opposite, running to the left of some paddocks and gently going uphill. Further on the path passed between plantations of Christmas Trees, and then continued to the right of some large playing fields. A short road then continued on into the centre of the village of Sarratt.  I turned right, passing the Cricketers pub and then the village pond, before taking a path on the left that went down a drive and crossed in front of some cottages.

Sarratt (I went left here)

The path, signposted to Church End, then continued along the left edge of some meadows. It was then enclosed between fences with a wood on my right. Across a private drive, I went through a gate into a huge pasture. The path followed trees to my left before crossing the pasture towards Sarratt church. There were good views on my right towards the Chess Valley. I then passed through the churchyard, and took a path going slightly right. This soon crossed another drive and then started steadily downhill back into the Chess Valley.
