I spotted three Fallow deer, shortly before the path reached a track coming from Turville Court (to my left). I turned right for a few yards, then took the second of two tracks going right (both start at virtually the same point). I was now moving from Churchfield Wood into Idlecombe Wood. Where the track turned left and started to go downhill, I took a broad path going left immediately before the turn. This is one of my favourite paths in the Chilterns, which contours along the wooded hillside for some distance with occasional fine views out over the valley on the right.

After almost three quarters of a mile I reached a waymark sign where a path went right. I followed the path downhill and out of Idlecombe Wood, continuing downhill beside a left-hand fence to reach Holloway Lane. Across the lane a bridleway started from beside a drive. I followed it half-right for about a hundred yards, then turned left at a bridleway junction. The new bridleway soon turned right and started to climb gradually uphill between trees (it is named Gray's Lane on the Google map, but not named on the OS map). After some distance it became a surfaced lane, leading through part of the village of Ibstone and passing the intriguingly named Hellcorner Farm.
