Pete's Walks - Old Amersham and Seer Green (page 3 of 5)

I turned right, then took a road going half-left and followed this through the village to reach Bottom Lane (the Chiltern Heritage Trail took a path on the right somewhere along this road, and beyond that point I was entering what was new territory for me). A few yards to the left a bridleway started on the other side of the lane (I could have taken a footpath starting at the same point, but that would have shortened the walk slightly). The bridleway ran between fences with green fields either side, then dropped slightly downhill beside a wood on my right. At the bottom of the valley, I turned right at a bridleway junction and followed the valley bottom through Blue Close Wood. At a path junction where the bridleway left the wood I briefly joined the route of a walk I did around Old Amersham and Beaconsfield last January (the last couple of miles of this walk into Old Amersham are also the same as that walk). The bridleway continued on along the valley bottom, now between a hedge and a fence, then ran through the largely coniferous Bottom Wood for about a quarter of a mile.

At a bridleway T-junction in Bottom Wood I turned left, again entering what was unexplored territory for me. This bridleway, a well-used track, headed west through the wood, then ran between hedges and fences for about a hundred yards to reach the busy A355 main road (it runs from Old Amersham to the north, to Beaconsfield to the south). On the far side, a bridleway continued westwards along a surfaced drive for about half a mile, with occasional views northwards over green fields and woods (I could just about make out the windmill at Coleshill in the distance).

I then turned right, roughly northwards, at a bridleway crossing (near Wood Cottage, on the  OS map). This was a very pleasant section, the bridleway running between a hedge and a fence and gradually dropping into a valley. In a narrow wood in the valley bottom I went straight on at another bridleway crossing, now going uphill and soon leaving the wood behind.
