Pete's Walks- Southeast from Watlington Hill (page 2 of 3)

Where the tree-lined bridleway turned slightly left, I took a path going straight on, descending across a small area of scrub and then down across a field to reach some trees and then another of the drives through the Wormsley estate. A path continued on the other side of the drive, rising up across another grassy field to reach more trees running alongside Holloway Lane. A bridleway started on the other side of the lane, soon running between hedges either side, then turning right just inside Idlecombe Wood. After a couple of hundred yards or so the bridleway turned left and rose quite steeply through the wood to reach Turville Heath.

I continued across the heath on a bridleway to reach a lane, where I turned right. This soon ended at a junction, where I took the footpath opposite. This led down the drive of a house called Savior's and through a gate, continuing near the edge of an area of long grass with the house over to my right. Through a gate I continued through a pasture, where as usual I saw a few Jacobs Sheep. The path then crossed a corner of a large pasture (sloping out of view on my right). Through a kissing-gate I turned right along a track between a fence and a hedgeline on my right. Soon there was a nice view to my left, along the Stonor valley. It was now about 1pm and I stopped on a seat here for lunch.

Lunch over, I continued along the path which now descended into a valley (there were several Red Kites flying nearby, and at least one Buzzard). I could have turned right in the valley and followed the long bridleway past Turville Park Farm back to Christmas Common, but my route today continued ahead up a short rise  beside a hedge on a bank to reach Hollandridge Lane. A path continued on the other side, dropping down into another valley. At the bottom I turned right by some houses in Pishill, and followed a long path along the valley bottom to reach College Wood.

The path soon bore slightly right in the wood and started to gradually rise uphill. It levelled out for a bit before rising again as it turned right again. It finally levelled out again, and stayed close to an edge of the wood on my right. After a few hundred yards I reached a path junction by a stile that led out of the wood.
