The bridleway eventually merged with another one, coming down from the Bridgewater Monument up to my left. I went more or less straight on here, keeping left at a bridleway fork after about a hundred yards (the other bridleway goes down to Aldbury). The well-surfaced bridleway ran level through more of the Ashridge woods for several hundred yards, then at a path junction I turned left, immediately passing a cottage on my left, and followed another bridleway through the woods for about half a mile, until it reached a road (the one between Ringshall and Northchurch).

Across the road and through a small car park, a bridleway continued along an avenue of beech trees. After a few hundred yards there was a large pasture (entirely surrounded by woods) on my left. I stayed close to the fence of this pasture until I reached its corner, where I turned left along another side of the pasture (a footpath cuts through part of the pasture here). I followed the path through the trees with the pasture close by on my left, then near a corner of that field the path went slightly right, now with the woods on either side. On reaching a path crossroads where a track crossed my path, I turned right and followed the track to where it met a drive near Ashridge House. I went slightly left along the drive, passing the grand house over to my right.
