I now followed the bridleway for over a mile as it snaked its way along a valley bottom through a succession of woods, very gradually descending. There was a particularly attractive area where the trees had been felled a few years ago, even though the trees planted to replace them were protected by tall plastic tubing.

The long bridleway through the woods, approaching Dolesden Lane
Eventually I reached Dolesden Lane, where I turned right, still with part of Poynatt's Wood on my right. As I came to the end of the wood, I took a path that went into it. After a hundred yards or so, the path left the wood and rose uphill across a meadow or pasture. It then entered another part of Poynatt's Wood, continuing a little further uphill before turning left along a track. After a few hundred yards the path turned left along a 'hollow way' or 'sunken lane' with the edge of the wood on my left. It then turned right, running between a fence on my left and the wood to my right - there were nice views here across the northern end of the Hambleden Valley. I spotted my first Nettle-leaved Bellflower and Dark Mullein of 2019 here. The path then turned left, dropping downhill between fences to reach the end of a drive, which I followed a short way to reach the road through Skirmett.
