Eventually the path left the wood and went through a stable yard. It continued straight on between wooden fences, with a drive to the left and a paddock on my right, before turning right to run between a hedge and the same paddock. This brought me back into Hodgemoor Woods where I went more or less straight on (if anything fractionally left). After about a third of a mile through the woods I came to a path junction, where I turned left and soon left the wood at a bend in Bottom Lane.

I went straight on down Bottom Lane for maybe a quarter of a mile, then turned right onto a bridleway that ran between hedges either side. Eventually this dropped downhill through Bottom Wood, and at the foot of the slope I turned left at a path crossroads. I now followed a bridleway along the valley bottom through the wood and then on past a field to reach another wood, Blue Cross Wood. Here I immediately turned right at a path crossroads, following a broad path uphill through the wood. The path then went diagonally across a grassy field (passing a solitary tree) to reach another wood, called Birchen Spring. The path continued through this wood between fences either side, to reach the A355 main road.

It took a couple of minutes to cross the busy road, then I went through a metal kissing-gate and for a short way between walls either side before joining a tree lined drive (the OS map shows it goes to a house called The Grange). After a few hundred yards the drive turned right, now running between hedges and trees either side. After a while, the footpath forked right from the drive, crossing an arable field. On the far side I turned left, and followed a path across a similar field to reach Brown's Wood.
