Pete's Walks- Redland End and Bryant's Bottom (page 3 of 5)

On entering Piggott's Wood I immediately reached a path fork, where I took the left fork. The path through the wood initially stayed close to fields or paddocks to my left, before turning right and heading downhill. On leaving the wood it continued downhill beside a hedge on the right, with good views ahead and to either side over a steep-sided valley - I presume the valley is called Bryant's Bottom, the same as the village along its floor. On reaching the road in the valley bottom, I turned left for a few yards before taking a path on the other side of the road. This went steeply up the other side of the valley, initially between garden boundaries. It wasn't as far a climb as the previous one and the steep bit was soon over, the path levelling out as it reached a gate, beyond which I went straight across an empty paddock to another gate. After admiring a good view over Hughenden in its valley, I turned left along a track or drive, passing an unusual green house on my right..

I soon turned sharply right on a drive heading towards Dennerhilll farm, curving left in front of the attractive farmhouse. The public footpath continued down a farm track as far as a gate, beyond which it went through an open gateway on the left, then followed a hedgerow on my right as it descended Denner Hill into another steep-sided valley. I crossed a minor road in the valley bottom and took the path on the other side that climbed the other side of the valley - this was the third bit of uphill in quick succession. I was now in a huge grassy field, stretching along the hillside for maybe half a mile, occupied by two horses a long way to my right. Towards the top of the hill I entered Nanfan Wood, where the path soon levelled out. I continued for almost half a mile through the wood, until I went through a kissing-gate at a path junction at the northeast tip of the wood.
