Pete's Walks- West Wycombe, Green End, Bradenham, Downley (page 2 of 4)

The footpath left Chawley Wood and continued eastwards, going half-left across two arable fields, crossing the boundary between just right of where a tall hedge becomes a short hedge). Again there were nice views of the slope on the other side of the valley (which I eventually worked out was Bledlow Ridge), and further right towards West Wycombe Hill. The path ended on a lane called Bottom Road, where I turned right. I passed Chawley Green Farm on my left, then reached Chorley Farm on my right. I then took a footpath on the left, which went through a small enclosure and then across another corn field to reach a road (named Loxboro Hill on the OS map - it rose uphill to my left, to run along Bledlow Ridge and through the village of the same name). A footpath continued on the other side of the road, across another arable field. After crossing Slough Lane, the path then continued between hedgerows, before turning half-left through some bushes and heading up a scrubby hillside towards Hearnton Wood. Just before entering the wood, I stopped and sat on a bench to eat my lunch, admiring the views.

The path continued uphill a bit further through the wood, before levelling out. I went straight across a track, before reaching a second track carrying a footpath north-south through the wood (I've walked it many times, going right here leads to West Wycombe Hill so would be easy way to shorten this walk). I continued straight on, the path soon starting to descend. When it left Hearnton Wood, there was a fine view ahead and to my left, over the valley containing the village of Bradenham where I was heading to. The path continued downhill to reach Averingdown Farm, from where I followed the drive under a railway bridge and down to a main road (the A4010).
