On reaching a gate, at the edge of Rout's Green, a bridleway continued straight on (eastwards), beside a hedge on the left and with a fine view ahead over the Saunderton valley. The bridleway was soon dropping very steeply, with a full-length view of Lodge Hill once the hedge ended. There was then a flat section at the bottom of the slope. When another bridleway came in from the right I went straight on, and again went straight on when another bridleway went left a little further on. The bridleway now climbed a short slope at the southeastern end of Lodge Hill.

Looking back along the bridleway
Just after going through a gate, I turned half-left and started to follow a path uphill. After a while it turned further left, and then further on turned slightly right and levelled off. I spotted a Small Copper butterfly here, the first of three or four I'd see on Lodge Hill. The path ended by a seat where I stopped to eat my lunch and admire the wonderful views across and along the Saunderton valley. I then went through a gate and turned left onto the path over the top of Lodge Hill. After a while, the path passed through a clump of beech trees, then continued over a more grassy area where there were good views in most directions, including out over the Vale of Aylesbury or to Princes Risborough and Whiteleaf Hill.
