Pete's Walks - Old Amersham and Beaconsfield (page 2 of 4)

The path led on to the church at Penn Street, where I turned right, following the edge of the car park and then going straight on along a short track that brought me out onto the large village green or common, close to a pond on my left. I turned left and crossed the road, taking a path down a gravel track between cottages. From the end of the track the path soon continued across a large field of young green corn to reach Priestlands Wood.

The path continued through the wood and then the adjoining Tragoe's plantation (where I spotted a Nuthatch). After crossing another green arable field, the path ran between hedges next to allotments to reach the village of Winchmore Hill. I crossed a road and walked straight on, soon joining another road as it passed the village football pitch. At a road junction I carried on ahead, and soon left the village as I followed Fagnall Lane for some distance gently downhill to eventually reach a valley bottom.

The lane now turned right, but I continued ahead along the drive to Seagrave's Farm, which gradually climbed the opposite hillside. Beyond the farm the path continued along a nice farm track with pleasant views, soon dropping into a shallow valley. Here the track turned left around the corner of a wood, but the footpath went straight on across another green field. It went through a hedge on the far side (beyond a small wood on the right), then turned right and followed the edge of the next green field.

In the corner of this field I joined a path going left between the hedgerow of the field and some garden fences on my right - I was now on the edge of Knotty Green (a 'suburb' of Beaconsfield). The path led on into the interestingly named Netherlands Wood.
