Pete's Walks- Buckland Common and Chartridge (page 2 of 5)

After about a quarter of a mile, I turned left off the road and followed a footpath through two empty pastures to reach Lowndes Wood. The path continued eastwards through the wood, before slowly curving right and heading south (I'm not sure if this is still Lowndes Wood or another unnamed wood). After half a mile or so, there was a  pasture on the right beyond the edge of the wood.

Once I had this pasture on my right,  I then turned left at the next path junction which was a few hundred yards further on(this was further on than I remembered, much closer to Bellows Wood). This short path took me to the other side of the wood, where it joined a bridleway that continued straight ahead (eastwards again), with the wood and then a hedge of mature trees on my left, with a recently trimmed hedge on my right beyond which pastures sloped down into a valley. The bridleway eventually turned left, close to Cogdells Farm, and joined a street that led to the main road that runs through the village of Chartridge. I turned right, and followed the road through the village for almost three quarters of a mile. It had been a grey morning so far, but now the skies were brightening up nicely.

I then turned left into Old Sax Lane, which after a few yards became a track dropping quite steeply downhill, with a caravan park behind the hedge on my right. I crossed a valley bottom between hedges and climbed the opposite slope beside a hedge on my left through a field of rough grass. Near the top of the hill the path switched to the left of the hedgerow, before reaching a minor road by Tile's Farm.
